With a love for singing ever since she could talk, it is no wonder that at age 16, Taylor communicates a song with a warmth and depth well beyond her years.

Her love for Singing and Dance, was obvious at a very young age. Taylor began her love of music, while living in Western Samoa for 5 years. When she was only about 5 she began dancing the Polynesian style of dance, and performed with many different dance groups, and functions dancing Polynesian style with her older sister. Because her older sister had such a passion for hip hop dancing, she too learned to explore her options and other styles of dance. Including, jazz, musical theater, ballet, and hip hop.

Taylor’s number one passion however, has always been singing. She began recording her favorite pop songs, in the recording studio at age 10. At age 13, she recorded her first Independent album, Produced by, Producer and Song Writer, Felicia Sorenson Wolfe.

Taylor has performed in front of large crowds since the age of 10. Performing at various venues such as, singing the National Anthem for a Professional Boxing Match in Laughlin, NV, and many different Sporting Events, performing and dancing different half time shows, many Conventions, Weddings, County Fairs, Many School Assembly concerts, as well as opening for many other performers.

Taylor also participated in the making of the Christmas film, “The First Christmas” released in 2005, by Liken the Scriptures. Taylor participated in the Talent competition in Orlando, Florida with Lou Pearlman, attending many workshops, learning about the different parts of Acting and Performing. After auditioning, Taylor was also chosen to be a background dancer for “High School Musical 2”.

A few of Taylor’s Highlights over the past few years, include filming her own Professional music videos at age 14, (www.taylorvaifanua.com), filming the movie, “High School Musical 2”.

Taylor is also an incredible athlete. She plays Basketball, Volleyball, and does Track. She has been playing Basketball since the age of 6. She has had to make many difficult decisions in order to continue doing both. Taylor is a normal 16 yr. old teenager, who enjoys life, and would like to pursue her dream in the Music and Film Industry.

For those of you ready to vomit from all the reality TV schemes there are proliferating our tube every night, here’s something new that just may pique your interest. Sam Schultz of Brown Brothers Catering is making his dream come true in a big way, and he’s taking the local talent of four Utah girls with him.

Create the Group is a new reality series being featured on KJZZ beginning September 16 in the vein of “American Idol” and “Making the Band.” Over 300 girls auditioned to become a member of the newest Pop/R&B group to hit the market. Madi Murdock, age 14, from Sandy; Shanae, 17, and sister Taylor Vaifanua, age 15, from Hurricane; and Danja Bean, age 16, from North Salt Lake City were the four lucky girls crowned victorious after auditions.

The show will run for eight weeks following the girls’ journey as they try to coalesce as a team. These four teenagers must now spend countless hours rehearsing together dancing, singing, and performing. Add to that your everyday hormonal angst and the pressure of being the best and you’ve got a whole lot of drama on your hands.

The man at the helm, Sam Schultz, has always dreamed of becoming a music producer, but instead of trying to promote the next big thing, Schultz wanted to focus on the burgeoning talent surrounding him in his own state. “There are many vocal groups in Utah trying to make their way, few of them hit the mark,” as quoted from a press release from earlier this spring. The girls in this group are from Utah, training in Utah, and recording in Utah. Far from the horror that is “Who Wants to Be the Next Pussycat Doll?” these girls are homegrown taking, as Schultz says, “the underdog grassroots approach” to reality entertainment.

Judges for the audition process included, David Loeffler, a Los Angeles based record producer best known for his current management of Lionel Richie, Jenny Jordan Frogley, a local recording artist of LDS/EFY music fame, and Rudy Wolfgramm, best known as the drummer for multi-platinum pop group sensation The Jets.

The key player in all of this is David Loeffler. He took an interest in this project right from the beginning. Now he’s one of the partners managing these girls’ birth to stardom helping them through his years of experience in the music industry as they prepare to embark on their big tour.

To learn more about “Create the Group” visit createthegroup.net, and be sure to watch September 16th at 6pm on KJZZ to watch Madi, Taylor, Shanae, and Danja take off into stardom.

TV show creates girl group

Local reality program follows band's efforts to make it big
By Rodger L. Hardy
Deseret Morning News

OREM — It's been a whirlwind summer for four Utah girls picked to form a singing group for the locally produced television reality show "Create the Group."

Caterer-turned producer Sam Schultz began putting the show together last March with the assistance of David Loeffler, Jenny Jordan Frogley and Rudy Wolfgramm, formerly with The Jets. The three served as judges during months of auditions that spanned the state from Provo to St. George.

They came up with a quartet comprised of Danja Bean, 16, of Sandy; Taylor, 15, and Shanae Vaifanua, 17, of St. George and Madi Murdock, 14, of North Salt Lake.

"Create the Group," which airs is on KJZZ Sundays at 6 p.m. follows the girls as they work to make it big in the music industry.

The producers are putting the young women through their paces, rehearsing and performing in Utah and Idaho. Their high school studies are done online, Schultz said.

On Sept. 19 the quartet sang and danced in a live concert at the SCERA Center for the Arts. Still young in the business — it's only been a couple of months — their blend, though tight, hasn't yet matured, but their dancing and energy carry them through.

Story continues below
The one-hour concert, "Standing for Something," was part of SCERA's 2007-08 Wednesday Night Live Series.

The Vaifanua sisters were dancers in the Disney film "High School Musical." Ironically their performance at the SCERA was on the "High School Musical" set.

Bean was the first picked for the group.

"I've been through most of the drama," she said of her experience watching the staff form the group.

When they couldn't find the singers they wanted at the Provo auditions they trekked to St. George where they signed the Vaifanua sisters. Then it was back to Provo and the Historic Southworth Hall on Center Street for more auditions. Finally, they found Murdock.

"This is a put-together-group that we molded and formed," Schultz said. "They have a full team behind them."

Most of the pop songs the teens sing were written by David Devaney, aka Double D, who also serves as their dance instructor and choreographer. During their SCERA concert the girls also threw in some Jackson 5, complete with moves similar to the popular group of the 1970s.

The girls' parents accompany the singers because of their young age.

Taylor Vaifanua is happy to work with her adopted sister, Shanae.

Shanae's dancing sold Schultz.

"We had to find out if she could sing and she could," he said.

The girls have their first 10-song album coming out this fall as they prepare for a national tour. But first they have to get a name.

Naming the group is the subject of a contest explained on the Web site www.createthegroup.net.

Among their adventures so far is a trip to Las Vegas, where they stayed at singer Lionel Richie's home (Loeffler is his manager).

"It was unreal," Taylor Vaifanua said,

"We're excited for the future. We love each other and are glad to be working with each other," Shanae Vaifanua said.

About me
I am half Pacific Islander, I have a unique ethnic look, and look much older than I am! I am 15 years old, 5'10 inches tall. I recorded my first Independent CD at only age 13. I am trying to break into Disney, Nickelodeon, or any like Companies, that pertain to teens. I love to perform, and feel that I have been blessed with incredible talent. I have been singing and dancing since I was about 5. I feel I have so much to offer in the world with teens today. You can see some of my own music videos on my website @ www.taylorvaifanua.com, and see concert clips, rehersal clips, photos, hear my music, etc. I love to perform for school assemblies, and I have 5 dancers that dance with me, including my older sister. We look forward to shopping a film that has been written especially for me, and my group, about teens, in a band, sort of like a cheetah girls/parent trap film. It is an incredible script, and it is now ready to shop to different people. We hope to be filming by early next year.
