An Update on Angela Martin's Mother

Posted by thefunnystone on January 21st, 2010 at 7:44 PM

American Idol 7-9 contestant Angela Martin's mother, Viola Brown Martin, was reported missing just after Christmas. Radar Online is reporting that it's possible that Viola may have chosen to leave.

“We are not 100 percent sure that she is not off on her own accord,” Glenwood Police Sgt. Derek Peddycord told RadarOnline.com. “There are some sensitive issues that I am not allowed to discuss. Out of respect for the family, they’ve asked me not to have too much contact with the media.”

Either way, we hope Viola turns up safe and sound and everything works out for the Martin family.

American Idol Episode 3 (Chicago Auditions) Play by Play

Posted by thefunnystone on January 19th, 2010 at 5:26 PM

Thankfully, Idol is back to an hour of crap, so you might not want to kill yourself when the episode is over. To be safe, we prescribe a trip to the play by play thread to vent your frustrations over plants and boredom. Make sure to look out for Crystal Bowersox and Angela Martin tonight.

Spoiler Alert for the Angela fans: She doesn't make it again this year, her mom went missing right before Hollywood, so it's yet another tragedy for her. Someone needs to buy this girl a horseshoe. Still no updates on her mom :(

Fox Chicago is reporting that Angela Martin, a past Idol contestant who has made it to Hollywood again this year, is experiencing a tragedy. Angela's mother, Viola Martin Brown, went missing the day after Christmas, and no one in her family has heard from her since. Angela told Fox Chicago that she knows her mom is still alive, and they need help finding her. We hope Angela's mother is alright, and we encourage you to contact Chicago Police if you have any information. We'll keep you updated as we learn more and we'll link to Fox once they put something up on their website.

Since the Hollywood rounds have not been filmed yet for Idol, we can hope that Idol isn't terrible enough to exploit this story on their show, especially since Angela's father is dead and Idol already did a long piece about Angela's special needs daughter. Who are we kidding... Idol has no decency.

UPDATE: Fox finally put the story up on their site. Took them 12 hours.

A poster at IdolForums claims that American Idol season 9's Hollywood hopefuls will look familiar to us. Not because they are all plants like in season 7, but because many of them have made it to Hollywood before. Among those to watch out for in Hollywood according to this poster:

JoesPlace has updated her top 50 list today. Here are the contestants that we know are definitely in this year's top 50. If they make the next cut, they are in the top 36, and will compete for our votes.

Angela Martin, Emily Wynne-Hughes, Jackie Tohn, Jakob McKay, Ju'Not Joyner, Justin Williams, Michael Bartul, Ryan P.A. Johnson, Stephen Fowler, Taylor Vaifanua, and T.K. Hash.

If you know anything about these contestants (especially Michael, Stephen, and T.K., since we know so little about them), let us know, anonymity guaranteed.

We keep getting spoilers from our dedicated readers, so thanks! If you have any information you can share with us, please do. We will keep your name anonymous.

We've gotten word from even more sources that David Osmond was definitely cut in Hollywood for singing terribly. It isn't looking good for him! Some early standouts we're hearing about are a pianist named Stephen Fowler, last year's Hollywood contestant Angela Martin, a goth guy named Adam, and a guy named Ju'Not that Paula has the hots for.

Also, we've been hearing from multiple sources that there will be more than a top 24 this year. It's rumored that there is a top 36 instead. Sounds like it might be a giant group to hide some plants in? Guess we'll see what happens. A top 36 could be interesting.

Edited to Add: UPDATE. Sharon Wilbur was cut during Hollywood. Yay! And Ju'Not's full name is Ju'Not Joyner. Apparently Ju'Not was the "star" of Hollywood. Also, Adam seems to be openly gay.

The Hollywood week just took place for American Idol 8, and we're digging up information as we speak. Thanks to JoesPlace, we have a partial list of contestants who made it to Hollywood. Check out some of the people who made it to at least Hollywood that we may love (or love to hate) this year. If you know anything about these contestants, please let us know and we'll make sure to keep the information anonymous:
