Paula Lies about the "Jason's Second Song" Mixup

Posted by thefunnystone on April 30th, 2008 at 1:41 PM

In damage control mode today, Paula Abdul tells Entertainment Tonight that she was actually commenting on David Cook's song when she mentioned Jason's "second song" during her infamous flub on the show last night. It's not believable, she should've just gone with the "I'm drunk" excuse. Her critique on "Jason's second song" was that he wasn't trying hard enough to get into the top 4 and that it wasn't good. Her critique of David after catching herself was that he was good. This should be proof enough that Idol isn't even good enough at lying to fix simple problems that expose how fixed the show is. If it truly was a misunderstanding, it would be easy to explain. But since Paula is lying about it, something is up. Also, EW's Popwatch blog talks about how Nigel Lythgoe was FREAKING OUT when Paula messed up with quotes like, "Nigel was frantically gesturing a single finger to anyone who could see him: ONE SONG! THEY'VE ONLY SUNG ONE SONG!" The fact that Nigel was freaking out is a sure sign that this was definitely something big. (If you missed Paula's flub, you can check it out here.)

Idols Final 5: Cracklin' Paula

Posted by Professor Chan on April 30th, 2008 at 2:38 AM

“Relentless Musical Force” Neil Diamond (to quote Seacrest) is our mentor this week, a week that had strong potential for VFTW bad-goodness. The producers started the ball rolling by presenting Diamond’s starring role in the horrible, misguided remake of “The Jazz Singer”, as a success! That’s like saying “Carly Smithson’s album was beloved by hundreds.”

The Idols had to learn and perform TWO songs each this week. Add in Neil’s cornball lyrics, bullfrog croak of a voice and penchant for shiny shirts... Musical crimes were going to be committed tonight. I mean, this is the guy who seriously wrote a song about E.T. ,”Turn on Your Heart-light.” How could this NOT be a VFTW suck-stravaganza?

This week may be one of the most painful weeks of American Idol ever. Whoever created the Neil Diamond theme week should be boiled alive in Brooke White’s acidic tears. At least last week we had some really fun moments and some decent performances. This week, every single performance was bad or, at best, mediocre. And only one of those “bad” performances was VFTW worthy (of course, from Brooke). The only saving grace to this show was a train wreck of a moment from Paula when she wasn’t paying attention and slipped up that she doesn’t watch any of the performances. Classic!

Watch Paula read the lines she was fed by producers to say to Jason after his second performance. She says these after his first performance. The audience laughs at her since she's commenting on a performance that hasn't happened yet, and Simon and Randy look mortified that she messed up so bad. VFTW Victory! Even her "save" was pathetic. She then said the comment was meant for David Cook. Except the comment was "you're not fighting hard enough" and her comment for Cook was "fantastic." You go, Paula. Mess up more and expose the show!

Vote for Brooke! 1-866-IDOLS-03 or 1-866-IDOLS-08

Posted by thefunnystone on April 29th, 2008 at 6:43 PM

To vote for Brooke this week, dial 1-866-IDOLS-03 or 1-866-IDOLS-08 as much as you can. You can also text 'VOTE' to 5703. "I'm a Believer" was awesome in its head-bopping awkwardness, one of her best (worst) ever and definitely the worst of the night. Her second was better but the squeaking and shaking was still characteristically Brooke. And Paula's slip-up to prove that the show is scripted? PRICELESS. This show is derailing faster than you can say "canceled before season 8." Oh, this is so bad! We must help Brooke get to next week, as it's rumored to be iTunes top 100 week and that would be CLASSSIC!
