yeah, it really is eerily similar. i read somewhere else once that they also contact certain people through myspace asking them to audition with some sort of preferential treatment... i always wondered if a.i. did the same. wouldn't surprise me, given the "v.i.p." auditioners.

I actually "youtubed" an audition by a guy named Danyl Johnson. Simon said that he, after watching auditions for 8 or nine years, thought that this dude was the best first audition that he'd ever heard.
The dude was pretty good, actually...if ya wanna see it, type it the way I did, with X factor...other wise you'll see a bunch of other "Daniel's".
The sixish minute long audition shows the "behind the scenes" drama with Cowell...

Not to be pedantic, well I suppose I am, but the American Idol auditions use the same format as Pop Idol, which Simon Fuller produced in the UK prior to starting AI. Simon Cowell created the X Factor so he would have complete control over the show, unlike it's predecessor Pop Idol, on which he was only a judge. Once Nigel Lithgoe left American Idol, Simon changed it all to be like the X Factor. Right down to those awful group songs, the montages and the judges stepping out on stage. Simon has taken his formula of what works for one will work for the other one step further. He changed the X Factor auditions, to live auditions like America's/ Britain's Got Talent. I was not impressed by this format change and frankly think the man is lazy, turning all 4 shows into one.

No matter which country you're in, just don't bother trying out for a reality TV singing show. X-Factor, the British American Idol run by Simon Cowell, is currently having its auditions, and a reporter chronicled her experience. It's eerily similar to the experiences we posted in our expose about what it's like to try out for the first round of Idol auditions. Both shows are produced by Fremantle, and both shows employ the same tacicts such as treating the auditioners with little to no respect and cutting good singers with very little reasoning. So British readers, don't waste your time. It's the same shit, different country.
