Well, So Much For a Comeback...

With all of the Paula Abdul pity in the air, someone had to kick her when she was down. Media IQ issued a study that said that Paula Abdul is the American Idol judge that most people fast forward through while watching their Tivo. This study is bullshit though, as they say that Randy is the most popular.

Let us explain what actually happens: People start watching Randy and forget they have to listen to the judges. So as he begins to talk, they hit fast forward, but it takes a few seconds because their brains are momentarily frozen while trying to comprehend the nonsensical comments from Randy. After fast forwarding, the viewers then hit Play when Simon comes back on, realizing that the judge comments are almost over.

This is a perfect explaination of what happens. It's actually happened to me a few times. I think to myself that I don't want to hear the 4 Ds judge the singers (My special names for the judges; Dumb, Dumber, Drunk, and Douchebag. You guess which ones are which.), but then I figure it's just one more thing to laugh at. So by the time the satellite finally responds to me pressing the play button, Simon is almost finished.

This is like one of those bad divorces that end with the two sides taking whacks at each other in public - yikes!

The statistic is deceptive without them including the percentage of people who actually use the fast-forward feature on the judges, which you would tend to think would be really low since they talk so fast most people wouldn't want to bother overdoing it and having to go back so they don't miss any of Simon. Because like if only 2% of people actually fast-forward, and of the people who don't fast-foward 70% would like to see Pauler come back, then that would mean that a majority of AI viewers actually want to see Pauler come back.

It'd be hilarious to see Paula course-correct and say that the outpouring of support made her realize that this is about so much more than money because AI contestants really depend on her to be their source of support and that therefore she wants to accept AI's 'crappy' offer of $5mil/season.

How would TPTB say no to that? That'd be pretty funny to see them try when they're bringing in substitutes like Posh - yikes!

I always fast forward through all of them except Simon. Not cos I care what he has to say but cos I know whatever he says is usually what the viewers and voters listen to. Occasionally I'll watch Paula for a laugh. Randy and Kara make me want to punch things.
