Well, the best part of this is that you have an active negative PR war being run by Jeff Archuleta through his employee/voicepiece. That has all sorts of potential by itself.
Anyway ... he's kind of lying, and actually contradicts himself somewhat (also entertaining). He makes it sound as if the producers took their pick for Archuleta and gave it to Cook. Only problem is, he also says they personally put it through for approval as an option two weeks before the show.
... SO that means it was one of their possibilities for contestant song choice. They chose the Chris Brown (beautiful nightmare) song prior to the producers choices being announced to them. So they would have already had to have been going in a different direction (contestants generally put in 5 or 6 songs for approval - then choose).
Can anyone imagine him singing that song anyway ? If the producers wanted to sabotage him they would have encouraged him to take it ... Cook probably wouldn't have minded ...
I do agree choosing "Longer" for him was a sabotage attempt. But making him go back to the original arrangement probably wasn't.
Supposedly Jeff had given the song an up tempo "hip hop" feel for Archie ....
How bad would THAT have sucked! We truly missed gold there I think. If there is one truism it is that Jeff Archuleta may be a worse at making decisions about songs than Clive Davis (yes, Jeff, I said it).
I can just see Nigel telling his people "Well, I wanted to screw him over ... but not THAT bad. Veto the 'Hip Hop Feel'".
/sigh ... too bad.

This sounds about half possible. As far as the first accusation, the songs for each round were not chosen by the contestants. And, actually, They BOTH sang their best songs first. Cook's "First Time Ever..." was much much better than that sappy crappy Diane Warren load of goop and he sang it much better as well. And did the producers FORCE David A to massacre any slight chance he had by choosing FOR HIMSELF the Chris Brown song which was quite possibly the most awkward performance EVER on the Idol stage.
I believe they may not have allowed Syesha to do things as she wanted, becasuse obviously they didnt want there to be any opportunity for her to actually ruin their dream finale. I mean, they gave her a song from Happy Feet, could there be ANYTHING they wouldn't do to get her off the show???
However I do not buy they are trying to fix this final. It has been clear since day 1 they want Archuleta to win and Cook to be #2. God, I hate David Archuleta, I will not be voting for him.

Right on man, this is the first time I disagree with the guys at VFTW. Sorry guys, but I'm still voting heavily for Cook. Even if there was a fix last week, there sure as hell won't be one this week, or at least they're gonna fix it for Archie. He's gonna do Imagine again, which he's shown that he can nail, and Cook got Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, which may be too high a pitch for him to nail. The songwriter's song might also favor Archie just like the song last year favored Jordin Sparks over Blake Lewis.
In short, I don't think the fix is in for Cook as much as you guys think it is.

I think his voice coach is full of it. It is likely that the producers heard his 'hip-hop' version of 'Longer' and spared us(the viewing audience) the agony. As for that damned asteroid song(thanks Chan that one stays in my mind so well), I suspect if he'd really WANTED to sing it, he would've. The producers picked it for Cook, not Cook for himself. Hell neither one of them picked well for themselves last week.
As for some sort of fix? Well they didn't complain all season when their boy dropped lines and notes and went off tune to a free pass from the judges!

ok, this is ridiculous. This is called damage control by the Archuletta family. I guess you all think Naomi Judd lied to. For what reason? Her fifteen minutes of fame? oh, wait, she is already famous. Not for a minute would I believe that Lil David is being thrown under the bus. Jason is already resting there. Lil David has been pimped from day one. Lil David singing I don't want to miss a thing-right, i can see that now...not. Randy has said lil david is "in the zone" the one to beat, motlen hot all season, honestly, even when he wasn't and messed up the lyrics, did excessive lip licking, didn't move on stage at all, moves one arm only, and has problems with breath control. Could he be any more pimped?
ETA:
when syesha wanted the same Neil Diamond song, David Cook gave it to her just like he would have given lil david whatever he wanted but the producers stuck Cookie with it-not much he could do. I'm seeing some real inconsistencies in Dean's story. I see no reason to vote for lil david only because his father is a jerk. everyone encounters road blocks in life. you must learn to go over or around them. daddy could have been replaced with mommy or another guardian but david wanted him. this whole dean story is damage control.

I think this is a ploy by the voice coach (i.e., by Daddy Dearest) to try to get Lil' Davey some sympathy votes. If he goes in to the final as "the favorite" then people who care only so-so won't bother to vote for him. But if the big, bad AI producers are being mean to him, then maybe those on the fence will fall his way. Poor Lil' Davey...everyone's being so mean to you, first Daddy, then VFTW, then TPTB...of course we'll vote for you. *pout*

Good theory. I wonder if they thought this would be picked up by the AP and turned into a "big story", unfortunately for them, aside from VFTW, I haven't seen it anywhere else. I doubt it will garner the pity vote as they probably did hope it would. I just don't think people care enough this year about this show or either David to pick up this kind of story. After Paula's gaffe with Jason, I think everyone has thrown in the towel and now is just thinking of different ways to retool the show. Article on MSNBC about the changes they think should be made here http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24712164/ one of many that are out there, I'm sure.

I'm sorry, as much as I love this website, I CANNOT make myself vote for Darthchuletta. I get a gag reflex going everytime I think of it.
Besides, if Cook wins, we can probably count on Daddy yelling for a recount all the while being put in a straightjacket and sedated. Now THAT would be great :)
