Skip to 3:35. Naomi Judd talks about how horrible David Archuleta's stage dad was when she was a judge on Star Search. Poor kid, he was probably locked in his cage after he wasn't sure what to do when Seacrest asked him to pick a side. We'll send food soon, David!

The VFTW page has this video and discussion on the same page as an ad for Phil Stacey's album. Whatever bad you might say about Phil, he's a sharp contrast to Archie, Carly, and Brooke. He seems like a balanced guy and _genuine_ in his All American bland nice persona. You could imagine hanging out with him and having a pleasant time. This years AI contestants, in contrast, are in desperate need of therapy. I'm somewhat comforted buy the posts in this thread, which show that Worsters can show a little compassion.
Since it no longer really matters who wins Idol -- the top 3 at least all get records put out as part of the AI machine -- and Arch's fan base will take him at least that far, TPTB are already commited to promoting this 'kid,' and I see a total Dominque Marciano / Jennifer Capriati quality meltdown coming.
And then there's Carly. Omigod, she has gone from simply annoying with her vocal grandstanding and bullshitting into total major psychodrama by taking both the Diva-dom and the pathological lying WAY over the top. She looks like's she's about to have a meltdown at any point. The question is not whether she's going to have a spectacular implosion, but when, and whether we'll get to see it. To me, she is so clearly beyond garden variety manipulative behavior that I have begun to feel (a little) compassion for her. I also think TPTB have already turned on her, and she'll probably be the next to go -- which is probably a good thing for her, as being on AI seems to be messing with her head. Saw somewhere on the web that the poeple who worked with her in the pub for years and didn't know she was a singer all liked her and thought she was genuine. Maybe obsession with the star-making machinery is her demon and brings out the worst in her. I had suggested that she should be the VFTW pick since the psychodrama is trainwreck-type spectacle, TPTB don't want her anymore, and she'll cause them big problems if she wins since she'll crash and burn again, no doubt worse than she did at MCA (I don't mean sales necessarily, but psychologically). I take that back, because it's cruel. Even a psycho b***h deserves better than torture. And VFTW should not be cruel. It should be fun. Sanjaya and Danny were about fun. There was nothing mean in supporting them.
The silver lining in all this, depending on your POV, is that the plants have caused enough problems that AI may actually filter for plantiness instead of encourage it in the future. Arch and Carly were clearly the most pimped, and we now see they are disasters waiting to happen. Michael Johns and KKKristy were one step down the planty scale, and they're now both (deservedly) gone. One of the ironies about AI is that some of the biggest successes -- Kelly, Clay -- are people TPTB didn't want at one time, while most of the heavily pimped contestants from years past have all has their 15 minutes run out a long time ago. If TPTB are worried that the fans over-rode their judgement by picking Taylor, and his record flopped, they have only themselves to blame: they took everything about Taylor that attracted people to him, and squeezed it out of him by running him through the AI production machine of hack songwriters and producers.... Gonna go vote for Castro in the poll now...

So you're saying the Archulater has his daddy's hand shoved up his ass? I'd believe it.

Very true. He's fine when he sings, because he knows what words should come out of his mouth. Well, mostly...

But once he's finished singing, he slouches over, dangles his arms in front, and whimpers like a pile of goo. Poor Ryan refuses to engage him in any banter, because the kid simply cannot play the straight man.

Then again, neither can Ryan. Cha-ching!

Naomi is way smarter than the talking heads, as she appears to fully understand that truth is always a defense to any defamation claim.

Watching poor Davey on the results show was really uncomfortable. That was so shitty to leave him till last; poor kid didn't have a clue as to what to do. Then, even though they didn't really make him choose a side, he just sat down because that's what he'd pre-decided/was told to do. He could have gotten up, but looked so confused. Thank goodness Cook bailed him out by joining him. It was all really creepy.

As a parent, I hope my kids never get famous. One actually is a performing artist, but what I hope for him is to be able to make a living and support a family with his work (like everyone else).

Did you see the latest SouthPark episode about Britany Spears?? A lot of truth there. No parent in their right mind would want their kids to be in that situation.

Which just proves how sick Dadchalletta must be. I don't care a bit for pimpchalletta, but more and more I'm starting to feel sorry for him. I don't think that kid would last 3 months in the fishbowl lifestyle that awaits him if he DOES have a hit record. . . .
