The Carly Smithson Plot Thickens... Should She Be Disqualified for Working with Randy Jackson in the Past?

The Carly Smithson plant debacle grows stronger by the day. We've done our research to find out something very interesting. Carly was signed to MCA records during the same time period that Randy Jackson was the senior vice president of A&R. Carly was at MCA in 1999. Randy started at MCA in 1998 and was there for 4 years. Should this mean an automatic disqualification for Carly? We think so! An American Idol wikipedia entry says that Thomas Lowe was disqualified last year " because it was publicized that he had been signed to BMG while Cowell was at the label, which is against Idol rules." If it is, we demand that Carly be disqualified. If it isn't against the rules, that's some shady, shady stuff going on. This plant definitely made it to the top 24 based on a prior connection with Randy, which should be completely unfair.

I was already sick of hearing about "the Irish girl" two years ago. She was supposed to be so legendary and that reminded me of the way they pre-hyped Jasmine Trias. We know how that turned out. They wanted her to be a star, they propped up her horrible performances week after week until finally it became clear even to them they were wrong about her "amazing talent." To me Carly is the same little experiment. Sometimes the judges are just plain wrong.

There hasn't been anyone on Idol as eminently hatable as Carly for a long long time and it's going to be very pleasurable when she gets disqualified or perhaps "leaves the show" of her own accord now that the truth is all coming out.

A pre-existing business relationship with a judge should be a no-no.

On a separate note, don't use wikipedia's as a legitimate source--anyone can put anything in those.

Well said. Let them "plant" away. No more Sanjayas, Sabols, John Stevens, Ace Youngs or any other poor singers is good news to me.
I am basically neutral on the whole Vote for the Worst thing, but it seems this year they got good enough singers so that the "Worsters" are pretty good singers.
Danny and Amanda are both pretty good vocalists. Danny is insufferable and a train-wreck as a speaker, and Amanda is a bit awkward as a performer, but they can both sing.
The bad part about plastering them on the front page of this site is the injustice. So supporting a bad singer was one thing, but degrading a good singer is less *cute* in my opinion.

In any case, Idol has done a good enough job finding talent that the haters now must attack the "plants," as opposed to rallying behind a bad singer.
This year so far:
Idol - 1
VFTW - 0

Wow, its so funnny how so many people get so worked up about a stupid reality TV show. It's supposed to be entertainment people. I read all the comments about how great this Sanjaya was and how pissed everyone is for him finally getting kicked. Why? Do people actually think he sang well? Crazy hair doesnt sell records.. If for some insane reason he actually won that season, and eventually put out some kind of mind numbing album, would you guys actually buy it? Im sure you all will say yes of course, but that doesnt surprise me with this tone deaf bunch. The best he could have hoped for was the novelty isle right next to Wierd Al Yankovic. Or even better, the discount bin.

The show is trying to produce a "Marketable" act that can and will sell records. And like it or not, Carly is one of them, regardless of any failed past albums or some passing connection to Randy. Dont be mad at her because she can actually sing and has a normal hairstyle. If everyone wants to cry about her being a "plant" or some lame controversy, take it up with the producers. Come on people, move on.
